Pink Season 2013

Over the past year, there have been great gains in the LGBT community, both globally and here in Hong Kong. And these advances, particularly the gradual shift towards a more tolerant attitude, is something this year’s Pink Season is looking to focus on.

Now in its third iteration, Pink Season is pursuing a theme titled The Pink Reveal aimed at encouraging LGBT members to come out to their friends, family and colleagues. “It’s about revealing ourselves in order to increase visibility, which will, in turn, bring more presence to LGBT events in Hong Kong,” says project co-ordinator Bess Hepworth. “We are trying to reach out to the wider LGBT community and connect all the different factions.”

Indeed, this year’s lineup has been notably more inclusive than previous instalments. Besides Pink Season favourites like Mr Gay Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and Floatilla, there are a few welcome additions like global LGBT business summit Out on the Street, a gay improv comedy night hosted by non-gay group People’s Liberation Improv and a slew of gay sporting events including volleyball, football, badminton and golf.

The Pink Season programme is still being finalised, but it’s expected to have 40 events scheduled running between September 12 and November 10. Here are some of the highlights of the events so far announced…

Avant G’Art – Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival Opening Party

Floatilla 2013
