How you can help the relief effort from Hong Kong

You’ve probably heard about the devastation left by Super Typhoon Haiyan over the weekend in the Philippines. As one of the most powerful storms on record to make landfall Haiyan has affected an estimated four million people in 36 different provinces, as well as claiming thousands of lives.

Neighbouring countries and international organisations have already launched massive relief efforts to bring help to those in need, dispatching anything from expert teams and volunteers to hundreds of tons of equipment, medical aid, food and daily necessities.

There are plenty of ways you can help from here in Hong Kong. Here are some of the fundraisers and relief efforts happening from Hong Kong.

What you can do:

• Join the event Music for a Cause on Thursday, November 28 at Backstage Live. Enjoy live music, snacks and the chance to win great prizes, all included in the  entrance fee. All profits go to UNICEF. More details here.

• Join Typhoon Band Aid at Q Deck on Sunday, December 1. There will be live music and an all you can eat BBQ with all raised funds being used to buy shelter which will be brought directly to the Philippines. Location: Fenwick Pier, Wanchai. Robby: 90489992

• Visit any of the four Tree furniture boutique outlets to contribute cash to the Hong Kong Red Cross or donate useful kitchen and hygiene items. Closing date is November 24. More information here.

 • Visit Unicef Hong Kong and follow five quick steps to make an online donation using your credit card. Click here.  

• Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) offers emergency tracing services for people in Hong Kong looking for missing families. Email or call 2507-7135 (5511-2382 during off hours). HKRC also welcomes donation to support the operations. Find the details here.

• Get in touch with St. Joseph’s Church in Central. They are planning to collect financial or canned food donations from parishioners.
