Q&A: The House of Magic’s Steve Valenti

Witness an extraordinary world of magic and wonder in The House of Magic at Studio City Macau. The specially designed show has just opened in our sister SAR and is set to be Asia’s new mecca of magic with performances from world-renowned magicians, including legendary illusionist Franz Harary. We sit down for a chat with the Director of Magic and Illusion Arts at House of Magic, Steve Valenti and hear all about his career…

Hi Steve! How did your career in magic begin?
When I was 11 years old, I traded my skateboard for a bunch of magic tricks with a classmate of mine.  He showed me the tricks and I had to have them. I practiced every day with those tricks.

What keeps you inspired?
When I see creativity in any art form, I’m inspired to go and create more magic.

Tell us something special about your performance at The House of Magic.
As the Director of Magic & Illusion Arts, I can perform in all four theaters at The House of Magic. I perform at least one night every three weeks or so, to keep my act fresh, otherwise I only perform if one of the acts needs to have a break due to an illness or personal leave.

How has it been working with Franz Harary at The House of Magic?
It’s been great! I’ve been a close friend with Franz for over 20 years.

What’s the most difficult part of pulling off each and every magic trick?
The most difficult part is making sure that the audience sees what you want them to see, but doesn’t see what you don’t want them to see!

Can you share a magic secret with us?
Yes, most magic is simple. The harder you think, the more difficult it will be to guess the answer.
